Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd recently hosted the Executive Governor of Taraba state Arc. Darius D.Ishaku who was accompanied by Taraba State Water and Sewerage Corporation (TAWASCO) Board members and their Managing Director for a benchmarking tour.
The delegation was received by Ag. Technical Director Eng. Lucy Njambi on behalf of the Managing Director. The focus of the study centered on Governance and operational overview of the Company.
Other areas covered are: NCWSC’s strategic planning history, water sources, regional and administrative areas of operation, key performance indicators and challenges, international/ regional collaborations and partnerships.
The Ag. Technical Director thanked the team for the visit. “The partnership between the two entities is yielding positive results and is progressing well since the signing of the MoU. We are honored and privileged to host you.’’ She said.
His Excellency Executive Governor for Taraba State Arc. Darius D. Ishaku led the delegation for a courtesy call to Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director General, Lt. Gen. Mohammed Badi.
“I am pleased to learn that you have got an existing M.o.U with Nairobi Water. There is need for the partnership agreement to be reviewed to reflect and be in tandem with the advancements and changes that have in the water sector especially in terms of technology.” He said.
He also said NMS has rolled out water and sanitation projects across the city especially in informal and disadvantage areas.
“We came in at a time when Covid-19 pandemic had struck in the country and provision of water was placed at the centre in terms of mitigation measures. With the support of the National Government and in partnership with NCWSC we have been able to dig and equip more than 193 boreholes in the informal areas which are now operational” He added.
The Governor said his delegation was grateful for the reception and learning they undertook. “We are grateful for the warm welcome by the Company. We have enjoyed our learning and stay. When we get back to our country we shall implement the ideas as we reform our utility to make it commercially viable and sustainable.” He reiterated
Her Excellency A. Govermor Ann Kananu Mwenda said water provision is central to human existence.
” Water is life. I am impressed by the positive and productive relationship the two utilities have. The County Government of Nairobi, Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) and NCWSC are working as a team to deliver much needed water and sewerage services to Nairobi residents.” She said.The two utilities have an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) whose overall goal is to increase the capacities of the two entities so as to be able to develop and implement innovative and effective strategies in the management of water and sanitation services through sharing of knowledge and skills.
